Buzz Your Way into More Web Traffic
“If you build it, they will come” is one of those memorable movie quotes that have gone on to become legend.
However, while that may be true for baseball diamonds in corn fields, it doesn’t hold much water when it comes to building traffic to your website. There are literally millions of web pages out there. When everybody and their grandmother have their hands in the Internet pie, you have to stand out to be noticed.
Who can forget when the over-the-top fan Chris Crocker screamed at the world “Leave Britney Alone”? Sure, he was loud and annoying but he also got so much attention on the internet that he had television networks ringing his phone off the hook. Now I’m not suggesting that you scream at your video camera from underneath a bed sheet for the world to see, but if you think about it you can’t help but appreciate the buzz that was created from a couple of minutes worth of bad comedy.
How can this work for you? It’s pretty simple really. Spend some serious time brainstorming about your topic. Read everything you can find online as well as offline and take notes. Somewhere buried in that pile of research is an idea that can lead to a new approach to your product or service.
Look for it and you will find that fresh perspective that is sure to catapult you and your website into instant stardom. Involve yourself in web communities where your topic is relevant.
Even better- create a video that combines information with humor; it creates a terrific impact that is sure stay in people’s minds a long, long time. Post your video on your MySpace or other social networking page and let it do the work for you. Don’t forget to include your web address so readers know where to find you!
Creating a buzz can be tricky and you may not get it right the first time, but when it does work, you will benefit from a tremendous boost in traffic to your website, especially if your site deals with something that is topical and relevant. Whatever you do, keep working at it. Consistency is the key to success on the internet!
