Planning Your Online Marketing Attack

Now that you have chosen a product to market online, its time to take the next step and figure out how you’re going to do it. One of the most common rookie mistakes in online marketing is going into the game blind without any sort of plan in place. The good news is that you can avoid making this kind of beginner error by just finding the answer to a few simple questions.

Who does my product appeal to?
Before you can effectively market anything, you have to know and understand your target audience or demographic as they are referred to in the marketing industry. A bit of research is in order here, but it doesn’t have to be as difficult as you might think. Going back to one of the examples I used in the previous article, Fabio’s appeal is mainly to middle aged and senior adult women. This knowledge will help you to know the direction your marketing strategies need to take by telling you who your marketing needs to speak to.

What needs or desires does my product address?
Your product fills some sort of need or desire, otherwise it wouldn’t be on the market in the first place. The next step is to pinpoint those needs so that your marketing can specifically mention them. This is where content and keywords will come into play. By constructing articles whose topics and keywords are relevant to not only your target demographic but also to their need or desire, you are well on your way to more sales.

Why should they buy from me?
In order to establish yourself you need to have an edge, a reason for customers to buy the product from you. Again, well constructed and informative content can play a valuable role here. If your website provides a good deal of solid information, people will be more likely to feel comfortable with purchasing from you. Including in-depth testimonials from real people who have used the product with positive results can be another excellent idea. Often there is someone in your family or circle of friends who has used the product. Don’t be afraid to approach them and ask their experience with it. If they agree to share their story, consider using a photo of them as a way to even further personalize the experience for your customers.

By implementing these simple steps, your marketing plan will be miles ahead of many of your competitors because you have made an effort not only to sell a product, but to understand your potential customers, their needs and desires and you have addressed them in ways that others haven’t.

Now get out there and sell!
