Stumbling Into Increased Traffic

All traditional traffic building methods aside, there are times when you need to get the word out and bring a larger number of website visitors to your site as quickly as possible. I have recently rediscovered a tool that has been around for a while but hasn’t been used by legitimate Internet marketers to its fullest potential - at least not by my estimation.

Stumble Upon
The idea behind the Stumble Upon technology isn’t new, but its execution is pure Internet gold. Registered users have the opportunity to download a simple and unobtrusive toolbar for their web browser that allows them to ’stumble’ their way through random websites based on the interests they specified when they registered. For each website, the user has an opportunity to give it a thumbs up (they like it), a thumbs down (they don’t like it) or simply stumble to the next page.

When new people stumble on your page and give it a thumbs up, it increases the number of times your page appears in the ’stumbler’, which will increase the hits on your page. For that reason, make the page you submit as interesting and attention-grabbing as possible

In an experiment I started last week, I have personally seen an increase in traffic on one of my websites that accounts for as many as 500 new visits per day and all I did was stumble specific pages on that site. It is seriously that easy, and I have repeated that success every day for the past 7 days in a row so I have trouble thinking that it is simply a fluke.

While I cannot account for the quality of the traffic, at least I can tell you that 77% of those new visitors also checked out 2 or more pages on the site used in this experiment, and that over 15% of them have returned since their first visit. Those are numbers that cannot be disputed and anyone who has experience with website traffic will tell you how positive those results are.

One closing tip: don’t even think about stumbling a page that isn’t on topic. You have the option when you add the page of selecting a main keyword (from a list) as well as typing in a list of your own keywords. If your keywords aren’t accurate you are going to see negative results. In other words, play nice or you will be disqualified.
