Using Social Media as a Marketing Tool
“Social Media” is the hottest thing on the internet these days. From top friends and photo collections to blogs and video diaries, there’s no shortage of places to express your individuality and share it with others.

If you stop to think about it for a minute, all these websites are really more than just blurry photos of your weekend with friends, they are also a great marketing tool that, when used correctly, can work their magic for your web traffic as well.
YouTube
Ever caught yourself spending an hour or more watching homemade videos of people making fools of themselves on YouTube? It’s painfully obvious that these people have very little tech expertise if any at all and they can do it, so why can’t you? Marketing your website could be as easy as one good or even really bad video clip. For example, if you’ve got a website that focuses on recipes you could make a video showing you preparing a simple recipe and by using cheap & easy-to-find video editing software, you can even add a title, captions and a web address to your masterpiece. I shouldn’t have to tell you that funny sells, so be creative!
Social Networking Sites
Do I really need to explain how easy it is to use social networking sites like MySpace and Facebook to market yourself? If you’re a member of either site, you probably think the only people marketing there are bikini-clad girls with names like “Fantasia” and “Amber” who want you to look at their nude pics. Truth be known, tons of people have already figured out that by staying active and posting videos, photos and blogs, they can quickly build a network of people who will at least skim everything they post. Imagine if you were to post about something informative or fun and post a link to your website a couple of times a week.
The key to using these sites is to not make it look like an ad – make it fun and informative and the traffic will follow!
